Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF)

The Agriculture Infrastructure Fund is a financing facility for building post-harvest infrastructure: warehouses, cold stores, grading and sorting units, primary processing centres, and assaying equipment. It works through banks — the fund provides an interest subvention on the loan and a credit guarantee for smaller loans, which makes a bank far more willing to lend for a project of this kind. It is aimed at farmer groups, FPOs, cooperatives, SHGs and agri-entrepreneurs more than at individual farmers, because the assets it funds only make sense at a shared scale.

Register the project on the AIF portal, then take the sanctioned project to a participating bank. NABARD and the state nodal agency assist with project preparation.

Agricultural Marketing Infrastructure (AMI)

AMI provides back-ended capital subsidy for building rural godowns, on-farm storage structures and market infrastructure such as grading, sorting and packing facilities. Storage is the quiet lever in farm income: a farmer with nowhere to keep the harvest must sell in the week everyone else is selling, which is precisely when the price is lowest. Because the subsidy is back-ended, the project is financed by a bank loan first and the subsidy is credited against that loan once the work is completed and inspected.

Apply through a bank willing to finance the project; the bank forwards the subsidy claim to the nodal agency. Contact the Chhattisgarh State Agricultural Marketing Board for state-level guidance.
