Animal Husbandry & Dairy

“I keep animals, or want a second income from them.”

Dairy, poultry, goatery and fisheries support — breed improvement, sheds, and infrastructure loans.

Central government NLM

National Livestock Mission (NLM)

The National Livestock Mission supports entrepreneurship in poultry, sheep and goat rearing, piggery and feed and fodder production, largely through a capital subsidy on an approved project financed by a bank. It is aimed at building small enterprises rather than adding one or two animals to an existing household. For a farming family, the strategic value is that livestock income arrives through the year — weekly or monthly — while crop income arrives twice a year in lumps, which is what makes a household able to absorb a bad crop season.

What you get

Capital subsidy on approved livestock entrepreneurship projects, released through the financing bank.

Who can apply

  • Individual entrepreneurs, Self Help Groups, FPOs, farmer cooperatives and Section 8 companies
  • Applicant must arrange the bank-financed share of the project cost
  • Project must fall within an approved activity and cost norm under the mission

How to apply

Apply on the NLM portal with a project proposal, and pursue the linked bank loan. The Chhattisgarh Directorate of Veterinary Services is the state implementing agency.

Documents usually asked for
  • Detailed project report
  • Land ownership or lease documents for the unit
  • Bank account and KYC documents
  • Training or experience certificate, where required for the activity
Central government

Rashtriya Gokul Mission

This mission works on the productivity of indigenous cattle and buffalo through breed improvement — artificial insemination delivered at the farmer's door, sex-sorted semen to raise the proportion of female calves, and the strengthening of breeding infrastructure. For a dairy household the relevant point is that milk yield is decided largely at breeding, years before it shows up in the bucket, and that these services are delivered through the state animal husbandry department rather than applied for as a subsidy.

What you get

Breed improvement services including doorstep artificial insemination, and support for breeding and dairy infrastructure.

Who can apply

  • Cattle and buffalo rearing farmers, through the state animal husbandry department
  • Dairy cooperatives, milk unions and breed societies for infrastructure components

How to apply

Contact your nearest veterinary hospital, artificial insemination centre or the district animal husbandry office.

Documents usually asked for
  • Aadhaar
  • Livestock details
  • Bank account details for infrastructure components

"We'll help you apply"

Planned — not available

A guided application-help service is something we want to build. It does not exist yet, and nothing here is active. We are showing this so you know what is planned — not to suggest it is available.

Covering Chhattisgarh state schemes and central government schemes. We are expanding to other states over time.
